What is Wellness Coaching?

If you’re looking to learn strategies that can improve your ability to manage your multiple, usually competing, life areas, I can provide you with Wellness Coaching. Through Wellness Coaching, I will teach you healthy strategies to manage life stressors. I specialize in Mindfulness techniques, including breathing and relaxation exercises, and Problem Solving, Self Esteem and Assertiveness training. Additionally, I am trained in Reiki, a technique that utilizes energy work to help the client reach calmness and relaxation which ultimately assists in the clients’ progress towards wellness (Certified in Reiki I and II – June 2016).

What will I Learn in Assertiveness Training?

You will learn and practice assertive behaviors, including communicating in a direct and honest manner while simultaneously respecting the rights of others. This will help you in several life areas including in interpersonal relationships.

What will I learn in Mindfulness Training?

You will learn and increase your ability to live fully in the present moment. The ability to be present in the “Now” and aware is a powerful way of living that can lead to empowerment and success.

How is Wellness Coaching Different from Psychotherapy?

Coaching tends to be time limited and focused on specific problems to solve (keep in mind some psychotherapy approaches are similar) yet whereas in most traditional approaches to psychotherapy we may focus on reasons for these problems, in coaching we would focus energies on changing thought patterns and directed action toward the future, based on your self-identified agenda. In therapy, we will be addressing a personal issue also based on your goals, but more often this will be related to emotions, attitude, or behavior, with an emphasis on applying principles of mental health, psychology and human development to address wellness and personal growth. You would benefit from therapy versus coaching if the symptoms (i.e. panic attacks, nightmares, anger outbursts, etc) you are having are overwhelming you and frequently get in the way of optimal wellbeing.

Keep in mind that because I have a holistic approach, my coaching goals are to help you gain optimal wellbeing, which includes your ability to function over the physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social, and environmental domains of health.  I incorporate knowledge and skills that I have learned from clinical practice with alternative techniques and practices known to help people.

So in some ways, you get something from “both worlds.”

The following are some of the trainings I’ve completed and may integrate when coaching- Mindfulness, Yoga, Art, and other Integrative Practices:
